The British Butcher Shoppe Ltd. was incorporated in 1991
in response to the growing needs of expats to experience
the tastes of home. It began as a very small shop in with a
basic selection of quality meats but was known for its variety
of British sausage made with authentic British spices
imported from England as well as traditionally produced British
bacons and Gammon hams.
Ownership had changed but the current owner, Gerry
Davenport, became involved in the business when it expanded
in May 2005 from its tiny original store front to larger
premises,
still in the same block of shops on Queensbury
Avenue in North Vancouver.
Gerry, born in Liverpool, is a fully qualified European Chef but
yearned for the basic foods of his childhood. In particular,
he was searching for a quality meat pie. He was also tired of
owning restaurants or working in the corporate world. So
he built a small kitchen in the back
of the new store and began
making meat pies with just one big pot and a small stove. The rest
is
history.
Today Gerry is 100% owner with his wife, Kathryn, also working
full time. With two locations, he continues to focus on
making his own authentic British products as well as offering
quality meats and a huge selection of imported UK groceries and
sweets.
